Fantastic games, hold up well
By a customer , 07 Apr 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
Devil May Cry 1 practically created the action genre as we know it today, with great titles like God of War picking up the mantle down the line.
This collection is an upscaling of the 3 games in the series, and overall they look great considering they are last gen. The models remain crisp and clear, the framerates are fast and fluid. The textures are showing their age, but considering I played these on a 42 inch hdtv, something they were never originally made for, they look fantastic.
DMC1 is absolute perfection in gameplay and pacing. It has some of the best boss fights in video games and the combat has a huge ammount of weight to it.
DMC2 is complete garbage. It was made by a different director, and It just falls flat on all fronts. Just ignore it and play the other 2 games.
DMC3 is absolutely brilliant to play, with lots of new additions to the combat system.
Overall, fantastic collection. Just ignore the second game.- Was this review helpful to you?

having never played this kind of game i found it a little hard to get into the first game as there were no instructions and no tutorial but after playing the first mission i got the hang of it. 1st game was very enjoyable, 2nd i just couldn't get into and 3rd was also good. well worth renting along with dmc4- Was this review helpful to you?

Devil may age
By RobB3 (6 reviews) , 03 Aug 2012Devil May Cry 4 is the only DMC game I've ever played, and I did really enjoy it. So when this HD collection was released I thought i'd give it a go, so I could see the series roots. However, I don't believe that these games have held up very well over time. In terms of graphics, this is probably the weakest of all the HD collections that i've played (which is all of them except Resident Evil) and the gameplay just doesn't feel very solid.
I appreciate that at the time, these games were masterpieces, but I think that if you've never played them before, you won't find much here to your liking.- Was this review helpful to you?

DMC HD collection-the important stuff.

I still love this series, and I know it's been said, no. 2 is awful, love no. 1 but my favourite is DMC3, playing through the campaign as Vergil, I honestly think he's the better character to play as in DMC3, my opinion.
Anyway I'm getting sidetracked, DMC HD is a great collection for any hack-n-slash fan, and if you've played them already and you love getting nostalgic like me, give 'em another go.
DMC1 pioneered a brilliant combat system that was overflowing with enjoyability, with moves that just felt so damn awesome to pull off. And definitely some amazing boss fights, well paced and the bosses had very diverse attacks for such an early PS2 game.
DMC2 was a mistake, it just didn't work, I think the combat system just feels slow and clunky compared to DMC1. And Dante rarely speaks. Can't really comment further since I never played it on PS2 and I doubt I'll finish it on the HD collection lol.
Now DMC3, my favourite of the three, a refined combat system with some really challenging attacks that'll make your thumbs hurt lol, boss fights that can rival current PS3 games, brilliant characters and storyline, diverse standard enemies and two interesting mini-bosses (the Gigapede counts too because there's two inside Leviathan for people wondering) extremely difficult and challenging on higher difficulties. What's not to love about this game? Oh and Dante trashes his enemies so awesomely but I prefer to play as Vergil.
So my review in a nutshell, DMC1 awesome pioneer. DMC2 awful, just awful. DMC3 LOVE IT!!!!!!!- Was this review helpful to you?

DMC Collection
By EpiC (16 reviews) from Dewsbury , 24 Jun 2012I started directly from DMC3 was really looking forward to it, but did not find an easy difficulty setting so it was a pain for me to play it, died so many times. Was very dissapointed so am still playing DMC4 and waiting for the new DMC as atleast it will have an easy difficulty!.- Was this review helpful to you?

This party's getting crazy!

The Devil May Cry series is well known for taking a unique spin on the hack-and-slash genre with its colourful main character, Dante and its unique 'gothic' art style. Now upgraded in 720P HD, this recent collection includes the original three PS2 titles with bonus content such as soundtracks, trophies and concept art.
Both DMC 1 and DMC3 have aged very well and look fantastic in HD. I was particularly worried at how the first game would look due to its age, but I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. Obviously it doesn't look as good as most current generation titles, but considering its age the texture work and environments still hold up nicely.
The only aspect of the presentation that let things down for me was the menu screens. While the game is presented in a nice widescreen resolution, the menus (such as the mission screens, pause screens etc) are all 4:3. While it's only a minor niggle, it becomes a little jarring and just doesn't look very good on bigger TV's.
The series has had its ups and downs however, and that shows with DMC 2. It is by far the weakest of the original three and it still feels that way. I would definitely suggest playing through one and three first, then giving two a try and sticking with it if you can enjoy it.
I'm tempted to mark the score down because I just cannot enjoy DMC 2 as much as the others; but that clearly isn't the fault of the HD upgrade. Despite the menu screens, everything else is spot on. Definitely give this a go if you're a fan of the series, and if you're new to the franchise and enjoy the hack-and-slash genre it's worth grabbing it just for DMC1 and 3.- Was this review helpful to you?
