Finally the anime series of one of my favourite in-game characters has came to fruition, the theme of the anime series though is far from the original games story which in one way refreshing as dante (the devil hunter) completes jobs in order to pay for his dept as well as uncover the plot as mentioned in the description.

The artistic style is the bench mark of what all animes should be by now with great colour formation and awsome special effects, the soundtrack is also very well done (the opening song being by far the best to suite with the series tone).

The story as well as how the scenes play out through the anime with alot left to be desired, as it pains me to say this about one of the most action packet games turned anime series there really isnt alot of action or fight scenes in this...no really the best part is the starting fight in the first few minutes of the series.

The story albeit trying to be cerebral really shouldnt as its not a thinking/puzzel solving series but should have been the all out action packed fights of the game but maybe in just being picky, proof of this though is the final fight scene in the series when dante overkills the giant creature that was being prepared to kill him the whole series, the fight was just too short to make the series so climactic.

The story may have been a let down but i still consider watching this series with its well placed homour, nicely done fight scenes and incredible music which makes you want to play the original all over again.

    Thanks for reading.

You will know instantly whether this is for you or not.

Big-eyed, squeaky voiced girl? Check. Androgynous, emo-centric front man? Check. Flat sounding J-Rock? Check. This is a teenage boy's idea of what 'cool' should be. A play by numbers of the anime cliches. Which, obviously, do not appeal to me whatsoever. So why did I even rent it in the first place? Because it's Devil May Cry and I expect there to be action, a wise-cracking Dante and a huge gothic setting. If these were in place I'd forgive the rest, but unfortunately Dante slouches his way through the episodes and you find yourself watching post-battle posing more than the battles themselves. A shame.

I was really looking forward to this series, i am a big fan of the game series and i love Manga animation. However this did not live up to either!! The action seemed very limited and although there were plenty of fight scenes they were over within seconds. To me, a continuing story line, even in the background, would have made this much more enjoyable!!

  • Absolutely fantastic, shame about the audio.

As a series Devil May Cry is faultless. Superb animation, highly suitable voice casting (even a great English language cast), great story lines, incredible fight scenes, and plenty of humor. But as a DVD it has a big audio flaw, if a character is standing out of shot or in the distance then their voice is often distant and echoey.

So I would have given it a full 5 stars but I felt that at least a half star reduction was required for the bad audio. Still, I would highly recommend this as one of the best Mangas out there today. Fans of the game will not be disapointed.

Great characters, very nice graphics, but the story itself is pedestrian - I'd seen it all before. Not recommended for anyone who has seen a lot of anime, but Ok for someone fairly new to the genre.
