Take a deep breath before settling down with this swashbuckling fairy tale because the action is as spectacular as it is complicated. Wild tigers, wise hawks, wicked princes and heroic gypsies all have their part to play here, but the core plotline concerns Dharmendra and Jeetendra as twin boys separated at birth. One is raised in luxury, the other as a woodcutter's son, but romance and a court conspiracy bring them together. Director Manmohan Desai specialised in lost brother stories with the focus firmly on escapism; with its knightly joust and pirate battle sequences, this film more than fits the bill.

    wonderfully tacky Bollywood epic

There is really nothing like this film in all of world cinema. Where

else could you find Indians jousting in full knight-in-armour regalia, A

ship fight like something out of Cleopatra, and a plot where an

apparently ageless hawk is the key part of the story? Suspend your

disbelief and allow yourself to be drawn into this wonderfully tacky

Bollywood epic. It deserves to be a cult classic.
