Having never watched any Bollywood films before I thought that Dhoom:2 would be the perfect starter film considering it's 'global' success. I was surprised to see that the film utilises staples of the 80s American action cinema such as outrageously unbelievable stunts, bad guys who couldn't shoot fish in a barrel and ultra-cheesy dialouge. In addition to this I was also surprised to see that the male charachters were, by western ideals, highly feminised wearing loads of make-up and doing what western audience would consider to be homo-erotic posturing and dancing in most of the scenes.
The story itself is about a thief called Mr. A and two cops who are trying to catch him. This is about as detailed and as complex as the story gets as action set-pieces, bouts of dancing and slow-motion camerawork take up the majority of the films running time.
I didn't think this was an awful film, I just think that for western audiences Dhoom:2 is too far removed from what we expect from a modern-day action film.
