  • some fine moments, but not brilliant film!

    [Highly rated reviewer]

After the mixed critical reception that went with ' On Her Majesty's

Secret Service' it was up to producers Albert R ' Cubby' Broccoli & Harry Saltzman to get Sean Connery back in the role of 007 James Bond. Sean Connery said he'd finished with Bond in ' You Only Live Twice' back in 1967 but starred in this one to gain money for his charity fund for the scottish community. Connery's Bond looks slightly older now and his cool has worn off a bit. but the fact he was back is good enough for me. Charles Gray's performance as Ernst Stavro Blofeld { with his new face} is a great follow up to the end of ' On Her Majesty's Secret Service' and the movie has lots of interesting ideas. Morton Slumber the funeral man, Mr Wint&Mr Kidd the sadistic assassins and partners in crime. some great locations: Holland, America etc this film has space buggies, duplicated cats + much more. but who is the main villain? that's unknown. there's only one way to find out. watch ' Diamonds Are Forever' you'll probably be a little dissapointed and if your not a bond fan this film isn't likely to change your mind. but i enjoyed it and have given it 3 stars. ***

  • This fim is NOT a diamond

This is the seventh JB and the sixth and last in which Sean Connery played Bond. This is the weakest of the Connery Bond films and the rot is setting in. Still better than all of the Roget Moore Bond films that followed but this one could not decide whether it was a thriller or a comedy. This one includes the excruciating embarrassing attempted mocking of the two gay baddies and also the dancing girl who attempts to attack Bond by doing somersaults. By this time the Bond films were seriously losing their way,

  • WORST EVER BOND FILM!

    Rated - 2.0 stars

Well I will start with the (few) good points.

    1. I know talking about the music will seem like clutching at straws but the soundtrack for the movie is a bond classic, will no doubt be in everyone's favourite top 5 bond sountracks.

    2. Also near the start of the film the fight scene in the elevator was absolutely brilliant.

    Now for the bad points....

    1. Sean Connery looked way too old to reprise his role. It just did not seem right at all.

    2. The film was too long for the plot. Which for a bond film was not gripping enough.

    3. Had one of the lamest car chases through Las Vegas

    4. Jill St. John was a very weak 'bond girl'. I would probably go as far as saying she is the worst 'bond girl' of them all

    5. The editing of the film in general did'nt seem to run smoothly, especially the opening scene to the movie just did not look right at all. This ran through the whole film!

    6. I know Bond baddies have to be unique but them two guys following the diamonds around? You know the somewhat scary version of the 'Chuckle Brothers' looked like a pair of child snatchers, just looked laughable really!

To sum it up this is my number 1 worst ever bond film. I have rated it 2/5 stars, but only just a 2!

Despite returning Connery to Bond, Bond never really returns to Connery. Diamonds are Forever falls flat on most levels, making for a decent but forgettable experience.

  • One of nature's finest killers, Mr. Wint.

James Bond goes undercover as a Diamond Smuggler in an attempt to get to Blofeld, woman, thugs & the Police get in his way.

Starts off really well but Connery looks bored about half way through. Charles Gray is unconvincing as Blofeld but Bruce Glover & Putter Smith make up for it with the very sinister Mr. Kidd & Mr. Wint. Good turn too by Jill St. John as a Bond girl with a bit more to her.

Gets a bit silly towards the end, some truly dreadful Police driving & the infamous car on two wheels scene which shifts from one side to the other despite being in a narrow alley.
