Old Fashioned British Yarn

This is an early adaptaion by the BBC from a very popular radio series to the silver screen. It's a good old fashioned romp, with Dick Barton Secret Agent beating the odds to win the day with seconds to spare. This could be the review of all three DVDs in the series. In this one an English Lord (re: Lord Haw Haw)sells his soul to the enemy (the old Soviet Union) for money, but must kill all the citizens first.
INGENIOUS, FLAWED, ENJOYABLE, DATED.

Utterly superb
By keef27 (4 reviews) from London , 25 Jul 2008As soon as the theme tune kicks in, I'm a little bit in love with this film. By the end, as stiff upper lipped Dick Barton rushes to destroys a diabolical sonic weapon at the top of Blackpool Tower, I'm totally sold.
Seriously, what's not to like? An adaptation of the classic radio serial, some brilliant 1940s acting, a daft sci-fi premise, AND an ending in Blackpool! This is the kind of B-movie brilliance that Britain was capable of, and should be celebrated. It's not trendy, it was never critically loved, but this is a perfect reminder that the British film industry was (and still is) capable of greatness.- Was this review helpful to you?
