A bit dated but fine singing and production

Die Entfuhrung lacks the insights and intellectualism of the later Mozart operas, but the music is pure joy, with Mozart allowing himself full rein as he shows his early mastery of vocal writing. Excellent perfomances from all the cast: perhaps the pick is Valerie Masterson's Konstanze, but look out also for Willard White's effortless singing of the deep bass of Osmin. Some 1980s artifice - action during the overture, curtain calls taken from inside bits of the scenery - and lacking the best of modern technology in the recording, but any Mozart fan would be more than happy with this.
