I enjoyed the Stuttgart Das Rheingold – the touches of humour in the production worked very well.

Here the humour mostly fell flat. The costumes were modern day, mostly informal if not downright scruffy – this I think being part of the humour.

The sound and video quality were excellent and performances generally good though rarely top notch. I enjoyed Fricka in the 2nd act and the lengthy duet between Wotan and Brünnhilde in the 3rd act. The 1st act was less involving.

The main problem was that I simply found the production dull.
