Used to be your TV was a box that plugged in and maybe you had to fiddle with the antennae a little to get the picture right. Now digital TV systems - plasma screens, high definition TV and home theater systems, etc. - offer such a wealth of options and extras, it almost seems you have to have an advanced degree in technology .. This disc is very poorly put together. For a production that deals with such 'professional' issues it seems hard to believe that it's such a pain to navigate.
It's also full of 3rd rate CGI and spends too long on each topic.
It has some good test cards, but that's about the only positive thing I can say for it.
This DVD is different to what I had expected. A lot more detail and explaination of the characteristics of both video, audio and a lot more besides - not just a bunch of test screens.
HOWEVER: I primarily got this to set up my LCD screen. I did did the brightness OK but to do the colour you need the colour filter glasses that do not get sent out with the DVD, but presumably were in the original box. Just a word of warning.
It's all very well having the black level sorted, but you need a bit of kit then comes with the original disc to help set the colours...

I was very disappointed by this DVD as it gave very little info into Digital Video techniques especially cameras and editing.
It was more suited for the American home entertainment market and was very outdated
This disc was quite informative about all the technology surrounding AV systems, and describes well the settings as it goes along.
The big problem for me though is that the coloured filters needed to calibrate the TV are not included. These are essential to get the colour/ tint settings correct, so it was rather frustrating that they were not supplied.
This is a documentary style DVD about .... DVD's. The DVD is divided into a number of sections which illustrate the freedom to organise content that the DVD format allows. The sections on Audio and Video are particularly useful giving a good overview of a complex topic. The narrator does a great job of presenting a technical subject with zeal making it easier to engage with the subject matter. I didn't realise the potential of the DVD's and the importance of the hardware systems in achieving the DVD's potential. I would recommend this to people interested in the more technical aspects of DVD's or those wanting to improve their home entertainment systems.
was thinking it'd be smart to rent this, but really what's the point if you don't have the colour cards? about as useful as a chocolate frying pan....
I thought it wasn't very helpful to much commentary and too many big words got a little confused! It's more for a professional, not reccomended for a person thats just getting into home cinema products.
