    [Highly rated reviewer]

I think the reason for the relatively low rating is because people are expecting this film to be like the first. The whole point is that it isn't supposed to be a remake of the original classic. It follows the formula of 2 completely different people being united through dance, but I do not agree that it is merely a cheap version of the first. Nothing can beat the original- it is a classic that has a timeless quality and relevance even now.

What I like so much about Havana Nights is that there is a sexual energy relayed through the hip swaying dancing, thumping rhythms and political unrest. Yes, there are some cringeworthy moments, as in every teen romance, but on the whole this is a sweet and sexy film. As a film in it's own right it is highly enjoyable, and this is coming from someone who holds the original very close to her heart! Nothing can replace it, but quite aside, this is a fun film. Also, it's a must see for anyone into dance, or Cuban music. I'm even thinking of going on holiday to Havana!!

The lack of subtitles was annoying and I was not sure what was going on at those points, but aside from that, quite a fun film.

  • PALPABLE astonishing chemistry

How I love this film! Absolutely wonderful, I really can't find a single bad thing to say about it. Great acting, great costumes, touching love story and most importantly: PALPABLE chemistry between Katey and Javier...!! You literally hold your breath every time they're about to kiss. And of course a very enjoyable cameo appearance by Patrick Swayze... Oh and please don't expect some sort of a sequel to Dirty Dancing, this is a fantastic movie all in its own class and charm. The only thing these two would have in common is dancing and romance.

  • It got me wanting to dance ...

Personally I enjoyed it. It's got good sexy dancing, love the cuban music, and the story around the cuban rebels etc ... and Diego's pretty cute too. Bit of romance ... and I like that Katey thinks for herself, and the spark between Katey and Xavier in the dancing was what many of us would like! Actually I prefer it to the first one somehow.

  • Sexy & Alive

It will never be a classic like the original but the re-imaging is amazing. The dancing is strong & sexy in a different way from the original. And the music is soo alive! However, I do feel they shoehorned Patrick Swayze's original character of Johnny Castle into the story. There was really no need for him to be there.
