    [Highly rated reviewer]

A very entertaining comedy thriller set in Sydney in 1969 where Brown controls all slot machines. But the American mafia want to get in on the act, so send 2 hitmen over to broker a deal. What happens next is very violent and very very funny. Goodman is superb as the ageing hitman who introduces Pizza to the Aussies, Brown also on form as Sydneys leading gangster and Sam Neill does a good turn as the corrupt cop. Great viewing, lots of body counts, laughs and a look at Australian life in Sydney that no longer exsists in this cosmopolitan city.

A great Aussie film set in the 70s with an award winning cast. An amazing performance by Toni! Based on a true story, this film will have you in stitches! Directed and filmed exceptionally well. Definitely worth renting!

  • Oddball Aussie crime thriller...

Ah!, the Swinging Sixties... the essence of which are gloriously captured in the Australian crime caper involving slot machines, the Mafia and some pretty gory killings (including of pigs, if you are squeamish). Interesting to see Bryan Brown head the cast (which includes John Goodman, Toni Collette and Sam Neill), but he does a good job. Worth a look, although not in the same league as 'The Long Good Friday' (to which this has been compared)...

  • Disappointing

Expected more from this. Visually it was beautiful, but storyline very thin. Kept waiting for plot to really get interesting, but it was one of those films where it came to the end and you found yourself asking 'Is that it?!!'

  • IT HAD POTENTIAL BUT SQUADERED IT!

The Line up looked good...Brown, Neil, Goodman!!!.

    The Australian location looked orginal!

    The title sounded promising.

So what was the weakest link...

THE DIRECTOR. He sinply didn't direct it to make any sense. Bryan Brown excelled whilst all the other supporting stars were simply wasted.

*Only rent if there is nothing else you are more eager to see.

This had/has such a good cast - Bryan Brown, Sam Neill, John Goodman ... But just nothing ignited & it was turned off within 10 minutes.
