  • Excellent thriller/drama

    [Highly rated reviewer]

I haven't read the book, but I suspect that things were a little tidier in that. At the end of this film there were some loose ends and some motives and actions that were hard to explain. However, in my view these add to the film, rather than spoil it. A thriller is no thriller if you can see exactly where it is going, having questions which you are not sure about adds to the mystery.

The acting from the main actors was very good, all cast in roles that they are well suited for and do so well. Michael Douglas is the harassed executive that people think they can push around but when cornered fights back like a rat. It reminded me of a combination of his roles in Fatal Attraction and Falling Down. Demi Moore played a pushy Femma Fatale competing in a mans world, playing their game, again she can do this so well. Donald Sutherland played a good bad guy; greedy, out for himself only and doesn't care who he treads on, but oh so charming about it and always with such a gentle smile. Caroline Goodall played a perfect foil to Demi Moore, the perfect wife that protects their marriage even when she is confronted out of the blue with her husband's supposed infidelity. I am not sure why Dennis Miller got such a prominant billing, this was his first major role in film.

The story starts fairly slowly and you wonder whether this is going to be a good film after all, but the pacing of the film was very good and you find you are in to the second hour before you know it. You don't need to keep looking at your watch in this film. There are times when it all seems to come nicely to a conclusion, but you have this nagging feeling that there must be something else going on, and sure enough, things get worse for Tom Sanders (MD).

A film you can enjoy, when it is over you can look back and see that some things were contrived, but so what, who cares if we enjoyed the ride.

There does not appear to be a review for this film on the BBC web site, a link for the Channel 4 review is http://www.channel4.com/film/reviews/film.jsp?id=1 02817

thought this film was going to be brilliant, however how wrong i was.

the first half hour is spent with a sex scene, and the rest is just hard to follow.

damn shame too cause douglas is a class actor

I have watched this before but wanted to see it again. Unpredictable and a fairly good film for a Sunday evening. I watched it online but even if it was not available it would still be worth renting out.

An old film, but good actors as in Micahel Douglas, Demi Moore & Donald Sutherland. It was good to see it again, but I shan't bother with it anymore.
