Very disappointing
By a customer from Horsham, West Sussex , 03 Mar 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
I rented this video as my husband spent a lot of years in Dartmoor and thought it would show lots of our favourite places and interesting sites. i was saddened to see it spent most of the time showing the rounding up of the dartmoor ponies and scenes of them being sold at market and hoarded into cattle trucks ready for shipping to the abattoir.- Was this review helpful to you?

(2)Excellent, informative slow paced documentary
By a customer , 04 Dec 2011I love visiting Dartmoor and put this disc on my list sometime ago.
When it arrived I was concerned it might be a bit dull so read the reviews here.
Having read the one star review I was ready to send the disc back without bothering to watch it.
However I gave the disc a go and it was really good!
The programme was originally a Channel 4 documentary from 1988. So its well over 20 years old - but Dartmoor is pretty unchanging and the programme is still relevant.
20 years ago - before iPads, iPhones and the rapidly changing world we have now - TV programmes were a lot slower paced.
So if you are looking for an action packed, high adrenaline, fast moving TV documentary then this disc is definitely not for you.
But if you are after an informative program about Dartmoor with lots of stunning views but at a gentle pace then give this a go.
Unlike modern documentaries - where the presenter is considered as important as the subject - this one is about Dartmoor and the present rather blends in to the back ground.
Also to be aware its a warts and all documentary - so the bad sides of Dartmoor - such as uncared for horses - are shown as well as the beauty.- Was this review helpful to you?
