It seems unfortunate that, given a performance of the quality of this, that the most this DVD has to offer is some talking heads and a piano. The depth of the comments seemed essentially superficial, and the musical extracts were (it seemed) taken directly from the performance, rather than recorded separately. Thus, individual instruments referred to in the commentary could not be picked out, and the development of themes was touched on only superficially.
For the performance alone, however, it was worth watching. For the documentary -- well, I'll wait until Radio 3's 'Discovering Music' programme does an episode on the symphony.
