The Dobermann (Vincent Cassel) is a class-A criminal for the 21st Century. Along with his beautiful partner Nat the Gypsy (Monica Bellucci), and an arsenal of high-tech weaponry, he leads a gang of vicious underlings into one of the most daring heists ever attempted. Unfortunately for them, renegade cop Christini (Tcheky Karyo) is on their trail and will stop at nothing to nab them the Dobermann and his crew. A confrontation between the two is inevitable, and you can rest assured that it will be explosive...and bloody. French director Jan Kounen infuses his film with a brutal energy that simply can not be matched by most Hollywood action films. This dynamic French production, based on a popular comic series, is also relentlessly brutal and bloody, and packs an almost unparallelled viseral punch! Action fans, strap yourselves in...you've been warned!

This wildly stylish, tongue-in-cheek cops-and-robbers tale bursts with dazzling technical trickery, explosive action scenes and deranged performances, particularly from Tcheky Karyo as the scariest cop who ever lived. Energetic and bloody, Jan Kounen's comic-strip concoction has a fairly simplistic plot but slick camerawork and editing, as well as super-cool criminal posturing from Vincent Cassel and Monica Bellucci (who co-starred in the memorable L'Appartement), give the film a dynamic edge over the majority of recent foreign-language thrillers. If you can stomach the extreme violence, Dobermann is a heart-pumping, high-speed chase through the more commercial side of French cinema.
This is a film disconcertingly at ease with the hyper-charged squalor of its dog-eat-dog criminal netherland. The... read more on Time Out
I've seen this film slated in many a review for being an ultraviolent, shallow exercise in style over content. Well that it certainly is and it's a blast. It's a no holds barred comic book of a film complete with killer priests, trannys, big guns, drugs, toilet humour AND Monica Bellucci. The set design, the costumes, the in your face direction and editing are all first rate. And in Vincent Cassel you have a leading man who has more presence in his little pinkie than the charisma bypassed muscle marys like Vin Deisel.
I loved it. I'm giving it five.
I enjoyed this film and so I'm wondering if I'm a nutcase too. If you like all-action, slightly humorous and violent films, well directed and acted, this is for you.
