Vincent Price returns as the ingenious doctor, now in Egypt searching for the elixir of life, but continuing to outwit enemies with macabre murders, each grislier and funnier than the last. While it's not as splendid as The Abominable Dr Phibes, this sequel is mounted with lavish care by Robert Fuest — director of several classic episodes of The Avengers — and still scores high in the squirm and chuckle departments, mainly thanks to Price's perfect timing and grandiose camp relish.
Uncertainly paced but generally zippy comic strip for adults, with all concerned entering gleefully into the evil spirit of the thing. See prequel, The Abominable Dr Phibes.
I cannot believe this film has had good ratings! I ordered both this sequel and the first film at the same time, and after watching the dismal 'Abominable Dr Phibes' I forgot to cancel 'Rises Again'. I watched it anyway; I don't know why. Nailing my reproductive organ to a passing bus would have been preferable to sitting through this 1970s crud. The only vaguely interesting things were John Thaw and Peter Cushing's very brief appearances - totalling about 3 minutes. But seriously, avoid this film. It's trash.
An absolute classic.... Vincent price hamming it up is a delight... Top drawer stuff, a must for the discerning horror fan
