[Highly rated reviewer]After renting many Doctor Who DVD's and enjoying them all immensely I was surprised by how much of a stinker this one was; especially as it features my favourite Doctor.
There *seems* to be very little story because of the amount of sequences where The Doctor and Romana (mk II) are simply running around Paris from one scene to the next, dodging the mad French drivers and the bemused passers by.
I accept the poor sets (an entire stone wall wobbles when hit by the detectives shoulder) and the terrible monster costume as part of Doctor Who folklore, but the terrible acting (particularly by the detective) and some of the bizarre circumstances (Romana and the detective sat in a cafe drinking with the cafe owner not minding that they smashed the window to get in before it was open) are unforgivable.
I really like Doctor Who and I'm trying to be objective but I just can't think of anything nice to add. Sorry.

Memory LaneBy a customer from England , 25 Sep 2010I didn't see these episodes first time around : must have been one of those TV-free years.
However, it brought back memories of wobbly cardboard sets, cardboard overacting, one dimentional charactiers, one-take shooting.
Punching through the expanded polystyrene stone blocks was the pinnacle of the series.
My 11 year old daughter thought it was great for similar reasons. My 6 year old was just as scared as with the latest Dr Who episodes and their big budgets.
They would not dare make anyhting so fun these days.

Dont move, you might spoil a priceless work of art.By SilverHedgehog (6 reviews) from London , 20 Apr 2008I really cant understand the negative reviews of this Dr Who story Ive read on this site. Tom Baker, Catherine Schell & Lalla Ward are on top form. Loads of scenic location shots of Paris. A cameo appearance by Elenor Bron & John Cleese. Script edited by Douglas Adams. An absolute pleasure to watch over again.
