Worth another look...
By a customer from Birmingham, UK , 16 Feb 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
Although 'An Unearthly Child' and 'The Daleks' have already been released on VHS, they are worth looking at again as they've been restored and are nice clean bright copies. However, it is the extras which make this release worth seeing. With 'an Unearthly Child' included is the original unedited version of the first episode and short short comedy sketches by Mark Gatiss, plus a theme music video. In 'The Daleks' there is a very interesting documentary about the origins of the daleks. The third DVD in the set, 'The Edge of Destruction,' is only two episodes and is rather claustrophobic, being set in the Tardis only. One extra on this disk is a special 30 minute story of the 'lost' Marco Polo story. Overall, if you are interested in the early days of Dr Who, this is worth renting.- Was this review helpful to you?

(26)B&W is alright
By RMcD (41 reviews) from London , 07 Nov 2012It should be pointed out that nearly all 'proper' film makers used black & white to film in, right up to the 1970's- colour was A NOVELTY and used as such. The benifits of B&W over colour will be obvious to anyone visually literate, but may well be above the heads of many couch potatoes!
Any reviewer/viewer who dismisses ,avoids or negates a film due to it being in B&W is missing out on 60years of film/tv history & innovation.
These episodes are classics of well crafted speculative entertainment & despite the lack of CGI or glossy FX & decor, provokes the imagination in ways modern DrWho episodes rarely attain.- Was this review helpful to you?

Doctor Who in mind numbing black and white
By Colinski (6 reviews) , 06 Nov 2012I had forgotten what a grumpy old man the first doctor was. I have rented this as a consequence of nostalgic fancy, but perhaps memories play tricks on us. Doctor Who - The beginning serves to make me aware just how grainy and creaky childhood viewing really was- Was this review helpful to you?

Doctor Who - The Beginning
By a customer from Gloucestershire , 09 Jan 2011So good to relive my early childhood Tv days.
Remember watching these from behind the sofa, for its day they were scary.
Maybe not up to the special effects of today but
the stories are still good.
A must watch for any true Doctor Who fan.- Was this review helpful to you?

Classic Viewing
By Peawee (16 reviews) from Shrewsbury , 27 Dec 2009These may not be David Tenant and his assistants, but it brings back wonderful memories from a childhood brought up on Doctor Who and hiding behind the sofa when the Daleks and Cybermen came on! Classic viewing for any fan of the Doctor despite the slightly naff sets.- Was this review helpful to you?
