Whilst preparing to marry her boyfriend, bride-to-be Donna suddenly vanishes, only to reappear in the Doctor's Tardis. As the Doctor races the Tardis back in an attempt to get Donna to the Church on time, it becomes evident that she is the key to an elaborate alien plan masterminded by the dastardly Empress Of Racnoss. Alongside the woeful 'Fear Her' from series 2, this was the worst episode since Doctor Who was revived. Catherine Tate's pairing with David Tennant was horribly mis-judged, but then anybody who had seen her 'comedy' show should have already worked that out. Sarah Parrish as the spider queen is pure pantomime in every respect, and the plot resolution is increasingly typical of Russell T Davies' style that internal story logic doesn't matter as long as you've got a big flashy effect to finish off with. Cringe-worthy dialogue abounds and not even the occasionally striking direction from Euros Lyn rescues the production from being a complete and utter disaster. All in my humble opinion, of course.
A great Christmas special of Doctor Who but there is definately something missing without Billie Piper - she has always been the human view-point that the audience connect with and now she's gone, to be honest, you feel like the series needs her back. Hopefully this'll be rectified in the 3rd Series.
This was the sort of episode that is obviously a linker between series, but it is not as good as the previous Xmas episode. I thought that Catherine Tate performed better in the role of reluctant companion better than expected, but it is difficult to seperate her role from that of being a well known comediene. I'm glad that the 'Music and Monsters' show was included on the DVD as I had missed it when it was shown on TV.
Another fun release starring David Tennant as The Doctor. This was the Christmas special from 2006 and it also stars Catherine Tate.
So 'Am I bovvered?'
Well, it's certainly not slow. Lots of running about and shouting make it a fun hour. However, this is probably the weakest of all the new Doctor Who releases so far. Not only is there just one episode (plus a documentary about a Doctor Who concert) but it just doesn't stand out as one of the best.
Rent it, enjoy it, then probably quickly forget it!
I can see why Catherine Tate has been asked back to play in the fourth series. The charecter has real potential and is much more complex than first appears. That's what is needed if the excellent standard of drama achieved so far by this revival is to be maintained. It isn't going to be easy to keep it fresh and new but I reckon it stands a good chance.
This Christmas special is a lot of fun. I just love the motorway scene. It's inspired.

Classic Dr Who, a great way to start the new series 3.
Has a new alien monster, and a brilliant tardis (controlled by dr who) - taxi (driven by father xmas kidnapping donna) chase down a dual carraigeway.
Along with the dismal episode featuring Peter Kay, the laughable Hu-Dalek (in spats yet!) and the news that Donna will be the next companion I feel that Doctor Who has finally 'jumped the Shark' (Those who are avid TV watchers will know the reference but for those who aren't: it means just very silly)
One keeps waiting for Donna to say 'Am I bovvered?' and that is plain distracting. Good production values and the skill of the crane operator bouncing the tardis during the car chase raise the points but on the whole one for complete-ists.
CaTHERINE TATE MORE OR LESS PLAYS HERSELF AS CHARCTERS FROM HER SHOW. It is a good story and true to the Dr who format.
I tell you what, I have watched series 1 2 and 3 on television before watching this one. Catherine Tate plays part as the not so bright bride, and she does a good job, David Tennant does his usual comical deeds and some amazing tricks with his sonic screwdriver and sounds system and I have never seen the tardis use the road systems before. Can't wait for series 4, where apparantley Catherine tate is the new doctors sidekick.

Absolutely brilliant. I hired this originally for my son and I ended up getting hooked. Keep them coming doctor.
