What can one say, still a classic
By David Williams from North Wales , 23 Nov 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This is another title I got to compare to my aging vhs version of the same title. First thing I noticed is that the dvd version of this title was nothing like as sharp & crisp as Seeds Of Death was. For that I was somewhat disapointed.
Thats not to say that the re-mastering of this title was poor. In fact a very good job was done. This title required a lot more re-mastering than most. And the final result is very good & the pic quality is a lot better than the original tapes returned to the BBC for this title. A featurette is included that demonstrates the work of remastering with many examples.
The story is something ALL Who fans know of. This has to probably be the best story of it's time. I think the atmosphere for this story was very good with some decent acting. This one really worked to make the most of b&w filming at the time. As if in colour it would not be anything as well thought of as it is today.
If your looking for a good example of how good Dr Who was in the 60's this has to be the best one you can pick so start with.- Was this review helpful to you?

(28)poor sound
By activa (1 review) , 16 Feb 2013This episode is spoilt by the very hard to make out voices of the cybermen, it would have worked better if they voices had been re-done- Was this review helpful to you?

atmospheric,but...
By emperor10 (203 reviews) from newcastle upon tyne , 29 Oct 2009i can excuse the creaky effects, and the wobbling cardboard walls and sets.it is,after all,1960's television, and the look is very atmospheric. but the acting is absolutely attrocious! apart from patrick troughton, the actors really dont look as though they believe in what they are saying. i have seen better and more convincing acting in school plays with 8 year olds!- Was this review helpful to you?

A Classic
By a customer from Birmingham, England , 16 May 2006Until this was recently discovered by chance, this was deemed as one of the 'lost classics', finally now on DVD fully restored from the poor quality VHS copy, this classic WHO can now be viewed in full restored picture and sound.
This story is by far one of the best outings the cybermen have, it brings the real menace of the cybermen to the screen and are quite frightening even now, it has the usual fare of supporting cast such as the doctors companions who fill their roles perfectly...
Classic Who from the 2nd Doctor, Patrick Troughton, worth a rent!- Was this review helpful to you?

Excellent!
By John Lewis from Chatham, England , 15 May 2006A great Doctor Who story. Patrick Troughton uses his blend of intelligence and idiocy to outwit the Cybermen and Cyber Controller. This story is one of the essential Cybermen Stories, and helps you to understand the chronology of the Cybermen. It fits in nicely with other Cybermen stories, especially the later Attack of the Cybermen.
A great DVD!- Was this review helpful to you?
