This beautiful film is a sheer delight of perfection
By roncoach (369 reviews) from suffolk , 26 Oct 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
I could write for hours about the complete beauty and magnificence of this sprawling epic wonder of the silver screen.
It has everything coming together in perfect chemistry and perfection, under the master director ( better than all his other fantastic films ).
The cinematography is exquisite. So is the music. So is the story. So is the acting of both leading players and a host of supporting actors who could have won an Oscar in any year : Tom Courtney, Rod Steiger,Alec Guiness, Ralph Richardson, Geraldine Chaplin to name some.
But I will not write here at length. I'll just say that it is utter perfection, a poignant and marvellous epic that everyone should see.- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer , 30 Nov 2011As good as I remember it first time around. I'm looking forward to receiving the second half of the film. It's a pity it never arrived after months and months.- Was this review helpful to you?

A classic love story
By RJNeb2 (934 reviews) from London , 13 Oct 2011David Leans aim with this adaptation was to make an intimate epic, and on that front he certainly succeeds, charting the Great Love between the eponymous doctor/ poet and his muse, Lara. (Perfectly understandable as shes played by Julie Christie at her most luminous and beautiful.) For all the immaculate care lavished on every aspect of this mammoth production, theres one big empty space at the centre of it all and thats the inert character of Zhivago himself, a man who watches as Russia crumbles and burns in the Revolution, a man who doesnt actually act but react. Omar Sharifs constipated performance doesnt really sell it in either.
This is exactly the kind of film that the Blu-ray format was made for - sweeping vistas, gorgeous cinematography, an epic scope. It's all here, and it all looks fantastic.- Was this review helpful to you?
