In this frenetic thriller, Michael Douglas plays psychiatrist Nathan Conrad, whose comfortable existence is shattered when his young daughter is kidnapped. The ransom for her return is a six-digit number, locked in the memory of near-catatonic mental patient Brittany Murphy. Douglas must therefore delve into the girl's damaged psyche, retrieve the number and deliver it to kidnapper Sean Bean — and he has one day to do it. While the premise is ludicrous and some of the plot developments heavily signposted (Nathan's wife, played by Famke Janssen, is laid up in their apartment with a broken leg), the compelling performances from Douglas and Murphy, and the pacey direction of Gary Fleder (Kiss the Girls), add up to an enjoyable ride.

    Don't say a Word

In true Michael Douglas style it flows quite well, manages to capture the thriller side of it, I thought, and provides a few twists for entertainment along the way . All in all, if you're a thriller fan and enjoy a bit of psychological input, this could be your movie.

    Better than average thriller...

This is definately a better than average suspense thriller, it is not a bad watch at all. It doesn't do great new things, but what it does do, it does pretty well.

What surprises me about this movie is the negative feedback I got before I watched it. I would have to say the feedback was totally unfounded. I enjoyed this movie and would have no hesitation recommending it. Precictable it was but still a very good well acted thriller. If Douglas is your man this is not to be missed.

    Excellent

I admit I only hired this movie because Sean Bean was in it, but it's an excellent psychological thriller in its own right. Bean gives an amazingly chilling performance as a bank-robber trying to regain the haul he stole from a bank ten years earlier. It's become a bit of a tradition in Hollywood to have English people play the bad guys, and you have to say that Bean is genuinely scary in this film: sane enough to run this amazingly complex scam, but almost hollow with insanity.

Unusual for these movies, I felt deeply for the innocents caught up in this horror--particularly the mother of the little girl. Incapacitated throughout the movie by a broken leg, her horror at being unable to save her child is quite affecting.

This is a great movie for a good night in with friends; Bean fans will love it. Very entertaining.

    Thrilling!

This really does live up to it's genre of thriller. It almost but not quite keeps you on the edge of your seat. The cast, including Brittany Murphy and Sean Bean absolutely shine as does the pace of this film. The only negative was the holes in the plot ie why go to the island? How did the girl get there? And how did Douglas's wife with a supposed broken leg manage to lift the daughter while standing unaided? Definately worth the watch. Very enjoyable.
