The children of the Crandell family are forced to fend for themselves when their elderly and decidedly crotchety babysitter drops dead while their mother is on holiday in Australia, in this reasonably engaging comedy fantasy from Stephen Herek, director of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Tailored for TV's Married... with Children star Christina Applegate, it veers uneasily from mild black, slightly adult comedy (the scary Poppins popped unceremoniously in a trunk) to farcical teenage wish-fulfilment (big sister climbing the ladder to success in the fashion business in order to pay the bills). Nevertheless, it manages to remain remarkably good-humoured throughout such awkward shifts in tone. Many will consider Applegate's charms a good enough substitute for the lack of any really fast and furious fun.

Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead.

Fairly reasonable teen comedy, nothing exciting but nothing too bad either.
