classic fantastic

Have waited for years to get my hands on a DVD of 'Tiger in the Smoke' - an adaptation of a 1956 Mystery thriller. So excited to see this included in this collection of fantastic classics - if you only watch one of these movies, make it that one!- Was this review helpful to you?

(9)We'd forgotten 'A day to Remember'
By a customer , 01 Jan 2013We could remember some of the stars of 'A Day to Remember' - but not the detail of the plot - such as it was. It was very simple - pub darts team has a day out across the Channel, and the film records their experiences. Our enjoyment was considerably enhanced by the casting, not only the stars but also the supporting characters, all of whom seemed ideally cast. There was a young Shirley Eaton (not listed in the credits) and stalworts like James Hayter, Harry Fowler, Peter Jones, Bill Owen, and delightfully French Odile Versois. Director Ralph Thomas (of 'Doctor in the House' fame) skillfully wove together the various strands of the story to make an undemanding but enjoyable British film. Lovely Film, lovely Day Out
By a customer , 16 Apr 2011A Day To Remember is a sweet, nostalgic reminder of a time long gone. A darts team from London take a day-trip to France to re-visit old haunts.
Plenty of laughs and a little bit of drama too.
There's something about this little gem that makes me wish we still have days like this but they are sadly gone for good.- Was this review helpful to you?

Mad About Men

It is unusual for a sequel to be even better that the original, but this just is. Cracking performances from all concerned. Margaret Rutherford returns as the nurse who helps Miranda (Johns). Watch out for a very funny Dora Bryan as Miranda's mermaid companion. Unlike Miranda, Mad About Men is in colour. If you like old British romantic comedies then this is a must. Over 50 years old, but it, for me, stands the test of time. .......Enjoyed it from start to finish.- Was this review helpful to you?

Bubbly fun

Caroline Trewalla, a schoolteacher, discovers that she has an identical cousin who is a mermaid, Miranda Trewalla. Whereas Caroline is a staid young lady with a boring boyfriend, Miranda is fun-loving and Mad about Men. When Caroline goes away on a cycling holiday with a female colleague, Miranda suggests that she takes her place -- and proceeds to wreck mayhem among the local male population. Glynis Johns is great as Caroline and Miranda, while Dora Bryan is wonderfully dotty as Miranda's fellow-mermaid Berengaria. This film was the sequel to the very successful 'Miranda' (1948), which, alas, is not available from DVD rental.- Was this review helpful to you?
