In the ravaged, flooded Los Angeles of 2007, Jimmy and Billy (Mark Dacascos and Scott Wolf) are streetwise youths who come upon one half of an ancient Chinese talisman, which gives awesome power to whoever possesses both halves. Unfortunately, the other portion is owned by unscrupulous gang boss Koga Shuko (Robert Patrick) and his phalanx of gigantic henchmen. Naturally, he's out to reunite the Double Dragon and take over the world. Nifty ideas include cars that run on any old garbage lying around, though it appears kickboxing will still be the preferred method of self-defence in 2007. Decent effects and a wisecracking screenplay lift James Yukich's movie above the usual futuristic fare.
"...It gets its real kick from martial-arts acrobatics, comic-book-vivid art direction, and a future-shock vision..." -- Rating: B
Ok I'm only going to review this because no one else has seen fit to write anything about such utter rubish. Ok I did select this film knowing it would be bad but was shocked to find that it was that bad. There is a history that computer games do not make good films and this again proves that it is true. Bad acting and a poor story line is only half the poor parts you will find in this film.. they really are too many to mention
This movie is based on the 80's arcade video game hit of the same name. Some of the martial arts are really good. The most accomplished martial art comes from Mark Dacascos (the star of alternative, but quality, action movies which include Crying Freeman and Brotherhood of the Wolf). Double Dragon, the movie, will probably please mainly fans of the video game series. If you don't like flimsy storylines and martial art butt-kicking, then give this a miss. For its intended audience I'd say it was a tad better then some of the video game to movie renditions which came out in the same era.
