Not a perfect film...
By a customer from Winchester , 04 Feb 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
..but as near perfect a set of performances as we could hope for. A gripping drama which prompts lots of questions afterwards and allows scope for alternative explanations, Doubt after all being the name of the movie. For me the screenplay didn't always seem true, but the cast made that all but irrelevant and for fans of Meryl Streep (who isn't?) you won't be disappointed. Brad (sorry, Philip, but for me you will always be Lebowski's butler) was also outstanding, but perhaps the best performance of all was the utterly convincing Amy Adams.- Was this review helpful to you?

(279)Thought provoking performance by Meryl Streep
By a customer , 02 Jun 2013An excellent film, with good performances from the 3 principle actors .Meryl Streep as always is utterly convincing and gives a subtle performance as Sister Aloysious. She initially appears bullying and two dimensional but as the role develops her compassion becomes apparent. PSH plays an excellent role,at first a sympathetic character but as the story develops more self serving and weak. The doubt of the title is open to interpretation. Thoroughly enjopyable and thought provoking.- Was this review helpful to you?

brilliant film
By a customer , 15 May 2013Brilliant performances by both PSH and MS. A film of uncertainty and doubt, you could be persuaded by either of the main two characters. watch it now.- Was this review helpful to you?

For people who actually think.
By a customer , 10 Feb 2013Intelligent, understated, well written and well acted. A movie for grown ups, which is rare these days. Meryl streep is particularly good.- Was this review helpful to you?

Excellent film
By a customer , 27 Aug 2012Atmospheric. Deals with serious issues - priesthood abuses, and the impact of dogmatism -all in the realistic manner of the times, but still highly relevant today. Superb acting.- Was this review helpful to you?

I 'doubt' you'll want to miss this!
By Rhys-H (7 reviews) , 31 Jul 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
This film is most definitely an aquired taste. Viewers who don't enjoy lot's of dialogue and experimental camera shots and sets most probably wouldn't enjoy this. But, for those like me, who like films a little on the fringe side, it proves to be a film worth getting excited about. Meryl Streep gives yet another absolutely staggering performance, and really draws you in, and makes you feel as if it really is 1964 there. Give it a go if you like films a little different!- Was this review helpful to you?
