..but as near perfect a set of performances as we could hope for. A gripping drama which prompts lots of questions afterwards and allows scope for alternative explanations, Doubt after all being the name of the movie. For me the screenplay didn't always seem true, but the cast made that all but irrelevant and for fans of Meryl Streep (who isn't?) you won't be disappointed. Brad (sorry, Philip, but for me you will always be Lebowski's butler) was also outstanding, but perhaps the best performance of all was the utterly convincing Amy Adams.

Brilliant performances by both PSH and MS. A film of uncertainty and doubt, you could be persuaded by either of the main two characters. watch it now.

Intelligent, understated, well written and well acted. A movie for grown ups, which is rare these days. Meryl streep is particularly good.

Atmospheric. Deals with serious issues - priesthood abuses, and the impact of dogmatism -all in the realistic manner of the times, but still highly relevant today. Superb acting.

  • I 'doubt' you'll want to miss this!

This film is most definitely an aquired taste. Viewers who don't enjoy lot's of dialogue and experimental camera shots and sets most probably wouldn't enjoy this. But, for those like me, who like films a little on the fringe side, it proves to be a film worth getting excited about. Meryl Streep gives yet another absolutely staggering performance, and really draws you in, and makes you feel as if it really is 1964 there. Give it a go if you like films a little different!

Very powerful performances especially from Meryl Streep! This film looked boring and I was going to give it a miss due to the dull title and the fact it was about Nuns and the Church - but so glad I watched it. It's almost everything a movie should be exploring the theme doubt to the core it rips away several layers and poses many questions, allows the viewer to think for themselves, has a rich luxurious feel in terms of production, cinematography and performance, keeps suspense at an optimum and challenges the grey areas between right and wrong, and evidence and conviction. A lesson to look beneath the surface as everything is not as it seems and to have the strength of your conviction. Spoiler: The movie made me question what I would do if i was in the Nuns position and if the mother was just in her inaction. The movie was let down by the ending which although realostic in terms of how Churches dealt with things, leads you with the unsatisfactory feeling like the bad guy got away.
