A slow-burning, downbeat black and white Jarmusch mood piece, stark as trees in winter, that never quite takes off despite excellent performances and some gloriously mad moments - the 'we all scream for ice cream' scene is alone worth the rental.
I remember seeing the trailer for this in the cinema aged 15 and thinking it looked exciting - 20 years later, I am extremely glad I didn't go and see it then; this is not a film for teststerone-addled adolescents...
