FRASIER's Kelsey Grammer stars as inept Navy Lieutenant Tom Dodge, in this nautical slapstick comedy. He has been given one last chance to clean up his poor record but thanks to his nemesis, Admiral Graham (Bruce Dern), he is assigned the leadership of The Stingray, a rusty, creaky wreck of a submarine, that will play the role .. This is one of Kelsey Grammer's failed attempts to make an impression on the big screen. Here the Frasier star plays a useless submarine commander who will be kicked out of the navy unless he can train the hapless crew of a dilapidated sub how to outmanoeuvre the entire US fleet. The fact that director David S Ward has done this type of slapstick so many times before (Major League and its sequel; King Ralph) that he's run out of new ideas doesn't help, either. Still, Grammer tries his best, and he's well supported by the comic turns of Harry Dean Stanton, Bruce Dern, William H Macy and Rip Torn.

    Purile, Tasteless... completely magnificent!!!!

If you laughed like a drain at Deuce Bigalo, snort like a pig when you watch scary movie, love Airplane or Police Squad, give this a go.

Kelsey Grammer is given his own command of a submarine, but Bruce Dern's Admiral character is not a fan and tries to stitch up KC with a crew of no-hopers on an decrepid diesel sub.

Ensue the David vs Goliath fight as Grammer takes on the might of the US Navy in an naval exercise to keep his captain-ship.

Ubiquitous fart jokes, (hinted at) knob-jokes and and snappy one-liners, just sit with the kids and laugh your bum off.

The electrician character can do an absolutely amazing impersonation of Frank Sinatra.. (don't ask)...

Anyway, my wife is sick of me watching this......

    disappointed

I liked this film, but when had watched a couple of times began to notice the somewhat inconsistencies. The most glaring of which was as the sub began its run on Norfolk the USN surface picket also including a Russian missile cruiser!

Excellent comedy - made me laugh out loud!

Every time I see this film there is always something I've missed from the time before. It is very funny and a good film to watch when you want a 'feel good' film to cheer you up. Watch out for the piece of string when they dive, and the 'big noise' made when all should be quiet. You won't be disappointed if you choose it.

    Great fun

Full of surprises. Gives you a good laugh, but plenty of moral issues being addressed between different personalities. How to make the most of what you've got and make it good.

    Customer Review

It's Mary Poppins meets the dirty dozen. It starts slowly and only really gets going when they get on the submarine. The electrician and sonar are superb; highly recommended
