Up With Down With Love!
By Foxysmasher from Suffolk , 03 Dec 2003[Highly rated reviewer]
For some reason this film flopped in the States and seems to have been similarly overlooked over here. I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable romantic comedy, taking its inspiration from the Doris Day/Rock Hudson rom-coms of the 60's. It manages to score highly both on comedy and romance. McGregor and Zelwegger both excel in their roles and lead a very strong cast. Visually stunning with fantastic sets, costumes and an amusing score. Very good extras, including a "blooper reel" that had me in stitches. Highly recommended!- Was this review helpful to you?

(347)Sorry, didn't work for me
By Gray2 (200 reviews) from London, England , 12 Dec 2011From the opening titles I got the feeling that the zany, slapstick very American style of humour wasn't going to be to my liking. It wasn't. For the record it's the (promising) tale of two people - Barbara Novak (Zellweger) and Catcher Block (McGregor) who stand totally opposed to one another in the 'War of the Sexes' (though produced in 2003 this is set in the sixties) but deceive one another as to their true identities and end up unbelievably forging a relationship. It's easy to follow (only 4 main characters). I'd loved Zellweger as Beatrix Potter and as Bridget Jones, and maybe that's why I originally ordered this movie - I can't remember now. Anyway, not only did I not enjoy it, I (thankfully!) fell asleep for the middle part!- Was this review helpful to you?

Great, lighthearted tongue in cheek homage to a forgotten genre!
By a customer , 11 Apr 2011Lock the door, unplug the phone & pour yourself a large cocktail! This film is a 'tongue in cheek' homagé to the Doris Day/Rock Husdon classic 'Pillow Talk' from the 50's.
Funny, stylised & brilliantly acted by a great cast & a very well know blast from the past.
Might not be everyone's cuppa tea, but for a light hearted easy watch for a rainy afternoon you can't go far wrong by ordering this great film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Love Not Out!
By tisheau (87 reviews) from Craigavon , 15 Feb 2011The original is still the best but this was an interesting attempt. Let's hope that Ewan doesn't go the same way as Rock Hudson. I am always fascinated by Renee but her mannerisms seemed too contrived to be believeable in this case.- Was this review helpful to you?

Down with Love
By Fakirkbairn (10 reviews) from Hertford , 09 Nov 2010I was disappointed with this film as it seemed very shallow and not a patch on the type of film it was supposed to be based on. However, my wife liked it and so I suppose this shows that it is difficult to please everyone at the same time.- Was this review helpful to you?
