Dated but still quite eerie

The first big screen adaptation of Bram Stokers novel with Bela Lugosi Count Vladimir Dracula, Transylvanias finest.
Obviously it has aged in terms of dialogue and over-dramatic acting but there is still something about it that makes it quite eerie.
Most of the big outside shots are done with paintings but work and the interiors are spectacular from the inside of Draculas castle to the large drawings rooms in London.
Lugosi plays the part very well with an air of mystery although the stare is used a little bit too much with light across his eyes.
Best performance by a mile is Dwight Frye as Renfield who starts off as the man arranging Count Vlads travel arrangements, eventually turning into his insane, insect-eating servant and a good turn too by Edward Van Sloan as Professor Van Helsing.
