It is such a breathless, delirious stew, it's impossible not to be entertained...
Do not be fooled by the CGI Budget of this movie. Special Effects do not a good movie make. I first saw trailers of Dragon Wars last year and was really looking forward to it. I think a clue to the quality of the movie should have been in the fact it didn't appear in any of my local cinemas.
The acting is awful. The plot has holes big enough for the monsters in the movie to run through. They took their budget, planned out two massive battles and some shots containing a big monster thing, THEN sat down and thought 'Oops, we need actors. And a plot. Ah well, this will do...' and released it.
The two 'battle' scenes, past and present day - very pretty, fairly well done with only a few snorts at 'heh because THAT looks realistic', and the critters in it are fairly good. But that's about it. I can't even call it a brainless Monster-Trashing-A-City movie.
I was so disappointed words cannot do it justice. If you want a big beast destroying a city, grab Cloverfield when you get the chance.
This film is disjointed, badly acted and has a naff story line. The special effects were good enough but the film was terrible. Maybe in years to come it will become one of those bad cult films. One star for the effects, zero for all else.
This film is a good time filler, ok, so the acting was crap, but its worth watching for the special effects!
At last the envelope popped through the door having waited several weeks since release for Dragon Wars to finally land.
CGI dragons - anticipation was high.
I was asleep 55 minutes in.
Shoddy acting, TV show level special effects, 86 minutes of my life I'm not getting back.
Avoid.
I love science fiction and fantasy films, so this should have been enjoyable. BUT it wasn't, it has got to be among the worst films ever made! The acting is terrible and the story makes no senses. Do not watch it even if someone pays you to!

Who on earth does the PRAT from Basildon thinks he is when he says go and rent cloverfield instead of this.Crappy hand held camera action that makes you feel sick after 10 minutes verses a heavily laden special effects extravaganza...YES ...OKAY,,,massive plot holes and under acting are present but the fx makes up for it.My wife and kidz all enjoyed it ..after all it is essentially a kidz film.
hired this one out from my local independant retailer,on the owners hear say,he said he had watched it twice?much better then Cloverfield he said?...do me a favour, dont reccomend me anything else, this film is pants, terrible acting, bunch of year 7 senior school drama pupils could of done better!..mayb the shop owner knows im in film clubs, and is not happy with me?.
Not sure why the other reviewers thought this film was disjointed and without a storyline. The early part of the film set in history gave the plot and the CGI scenes in modern times dovetailed in nicely with the 'historical' warriors. Found the film interesting but was too short particularly in the early part when it could have had so much more. The Snake / Dragon battle scenes were well done but thought the 'Gung - Ho' american scenes with rows of soldiers firing guns was trite. clearly an eastern cinema tragedy type film beefed up for western audiences.
I may be generous when it comes to my stars rating as very little could save this film in my eyes. In summary the film depicts a modern day clash between a good dragon and a bad dragon as they fight to gain the power to elevate themselves to heaven (something I assumed was a higher plain of existence?) Some lowly humans get pulled into this battle of the titans.
Clearly a large group of nerds huddled together to make this movie as the CGI content is massive and continuous throughout the film. At times it reminded me of World of Warcraft ! This is fine if you like that, but my issues with the film was there was very little character development - the plot is non existent and the acting verges on B-movie standard. Whilst the characters were explained and their roles cast early in the film I felt no concern for their plight through the film, and so the film as a whole failed to grip me. The premise is so outlandish that it really needs some solid personalities in the film to hold the viewers interest - sadly this was missing. I liked Jason Behr in Roswell, but I'm afraid to say he hasn't expanded his repertoire of acting expressions since then, at least not in this film. As for the rest of the cast, well it went down hill from there really.
They spent lots of money on this post production, which could have been saved by not making the film at all ! If you're a CGI buff then watch for the special effects alone, but don't expect to be drawn in by just the flashy exterior...
when i first got sent this film i thought 'omg what have i let myself in for' a film called dragon wars thats south korean but then when i started watching it i was pleasantly surprised. the soundtrack is really good and the graphics throughout the film were also excellent all things considering. if you are after a family film that everyone can watch then i would say for you to watch this. very very good. much enjoyed.
Absolute rubbish, the CGI does not even make this worth a look.
Avoid at all costs.
