Malcolm in the Middle's Chris Masterson headlines this efficient sequel to Rob Cohen's medieval adventure. However, the stable lad with ambitions of knighthood is largely overshadowed by the presence of Drake, the junior dragon, who was hatched and nurtured in the crypt of a monastery. As in the original, the CGI work is impressive, although Robby Benson is no substitute for Sean Connery in the voiceover department. There's plenty of action, as one of the king's trusted ministers attempts to seize power. But it's the byplay between boy and beast (especially during Drake's fire-breathing lessons) that children will most enjoy.
