Based on the novel by Stephen King, Lawrence Kasdan's DREAMCATCHER follows four friends who receive psychic powers as children when they aid and befriend a mentally retarded boy named Duddits. As adults, Jonesy (Damian Lewis), Henry (Thomas Jane), Beaver (Jason Lee), and Pete (Timothy Olyphant), reunite every winter at a cabin deep in the Maine woods to hunt, drink, and celebrate the bond they share with Duddits (Donnie Wahlberg) and each other. However, this year their wilderness reunion is marred by disturbing incidents which begin with the discovery of a lost, sick hunter and a frozen figure in the middle of a remote road. As events escalate and horrific creatures emerge from unsightly spaces, heavily armed government operatives, led by the imposing Colonel Curtis (Morgan Freeman), arrive in the area, and soon the situation becomes an all-out battle for the fate of humanity.
DREAMCATCHER features aspects of other King screen adaptations such as STAND BY ME, IT, and THE TOMMYKNOCKERS, along with films such as THE THING and SIGNS. Seemingly disparate elements that filter into this giddily strange story include creeping red mould, fatal bowel movements, deadly worms with needlelike teeth, an imaginary space called the "memory warehouse," a deranged military officer, and an ailing man obsessed with Scooby-Doo. Director/screenwriter Kasdan, along with veteran screenwriter William Goldman, revel in the absurdity of the tale, crafting an often chilling and sometimes funny film that delights in its own thoroughly entertaining outrageousness.

One of Dreamcatcher's few memorable moments concerns an extra-terrestrial life form erupting from the bottom of an unfortunate gentleman while he's on the lavatory. It's an entirely appropriate image, since down the toilet is exactly where this, the latest in a long line of poor quality Stephen King adaptations, is headed. The bizarre plot has four childhood friends on a hunting trip rescuing a deranged oddball who, it soon emerges, is host to some sort of alien parasite. While they attempt to evade the monster, the military — in the shape of Morgan Freeman — arrives, determined to eradicate all trace of the shape-shifting beastie. Despite a screenplay co-written by William Goldman (who brilliantly adapted King's Misery), initially effective atmospherics from director/co-writer Lawrence Kasdan and creditable performances, this is soon hobbled by poor quality CGI and an abysmally incoherent final act. As usual, King fans are advised to stick to the book.
Grossly flatulent horror about an alien invasion disguised as an irritable bowel attack.
Having recently read the book I was intrigued to see how such a complex storyline could be made into a film. In the end I think it is a reasonable job but if you hadn't read the book which goes into so much more depth and detail it will appear confusing and disjointed. As a piece of horror entertainment it is good, if you've read the book it's great to see it come to life !!
......of my time. To sum this film up I can think of only 1 word, diabolical!! It started out so well with so much promise for us then to find out that it was some kind of off-spring from 'Tremors' I can safely say this is one of the worst film's I have ever had the misfortune of seeing.
Ioan Gruffudd, the star of Fantastic Four, is to start work on his first project since completing the action-packed movie. Gruffudd is due to appear in The TV Set, a satirical film about the production of a TV pilot show. He will be joined by an intriguing cast that will include former X-Files actor David Duchovny, who has appeared in feature-length films such as Evolution and Dodgeball. Alien actress and star of The Village, Sigourney Weaver, is also involved with the project, as are 13 Going... Read more
