[Highly rated reviewer]Every one of the stars I have rated goes to Jennifer Hudson. Without her being in the movie, her fantastic voice and sassy character, I wouldn't have enjoyed the movie. She totally overshadowed Beyonce both with her singing ability and character. She is a real talent and moved me to tears twice. The talky-singing stuff was quite cringe worthy and in my opinion did not do the movie any favours. Beyonce of course looked stunning on occasions but not so much on others, less is more when it comes to make up she looks far more like a movie star when she is a little under-done.
On the whole, a good movie, but only due to Jennifer's four big performances!

Great film!By a customer , 18 Jul 2011Best sound track to a film ever, who'd have funked it beyonce and jennifer actually amazing actresses and eddie murphy and jamie foxx were good singers aswell!
Big disappointmentBy a customer , 16 Jul 2011Full of talent and excellent performances if you are into that particular genre. I found it difficult to understand the dialogue, wasn't all that impressed with the musical numbers (but being a Stephen Sondheim fan, I wouldn't be, would I?) and, as I wasn't enjoying it, ejected the disc after half an hour.
Incidentally, initially the camera work and lighting didn't seem to be doing justice to the choreography - particularly the hip-wiggling trio of back-up girls. For me the title was misleading - still, you can't win 'em all.
Dreamgirls Blue RayBy Greenfingersjake (131 reviews) from Milton Keynes , 03 Jul 2011Based on the Broadway musical, a trio of black female soul singers cross over to the pop charts in the early 1960's. This toe stomping hand clapping film follows from the success of previous musicals that have been made for film. This Dream cast headed by the bootalishus Beyonce is great
brush up on motown!!By ableyummy (18 reviews) , 29 Jun 2011liked some of the singing but slept through some of the scenes, Jamie & eddie gave it some character though. Good for motown history!!
Worth watchingBy a customer , 19 Jun 2011Overall I'd say this film is really good but it does veer between being really slow and really quick. It takes a while to establish the story, but then wants to tell so much that eventually it rushes through the scenes to get to the end. The scenes I wasn't so fond of were the ones where the characters sang rather than spoke to each other, but I suppose that's to be expected of a film like this. However, the singing was good - as were the costumes and hair styles!
