Run time 102 mins Certificate 15

The influence of Robert Altman and Woody Allen hangs over Dress to Kill, but it still manages to be an interesting snapshot in the lives of various interconnected New Yorkers involved in the fashion industry. It's a film that feels tonally all over the place (subplots are by turn funny, heartwarming, sad, etc.), but this isn't necessarily negative.

Several stories are explored, but I found the broken business partnership of Rita Wilson and Leslie Mann's fashion designers the most affecting. Great acting all round, notably from Jared Harris as a jaded fashion photographer and Mariska Hargitay as a truly horrible magazine exec.

Learning that the entire film was improvised made the whole thing a lot more successful and admirable, in my opinion. The interaction and dialogue felt loose and spontaneous throughout the movie, but not distractingly so.

Dress to Kill is an interesting 'experiment' that I would recommend to people who enjoy similar films with large ensembles and stories.
