Ryan (Troy Gentile), Wade (Nate Hartley) and Emmit (David Dorfman) attend their first day at high school and they're pumped... until they meet up with Filkins (Alex Frost), a school bully who comes off like a little Hannibal Lecter.
Before they become completely engulfed in Filkins' reign of terror, they seek out some protection by placing an ad in the Soldier of Fortune magazine. Their best response - and the cheapest - comes from Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson), a down-on-his luck soldier of fortune who lives a homeless - he likes to say 'home-free' - existence on the beach.

I hate it when its the school Holidays . There is a hardly any good films to go and see at the cinema unless you are under 15 years old .I found myself with a spare afternoon so i took a trip to the local Multiplex and the choice of films were : 10,000 BC , 27 Dresses , Codename : The Cleaner , Hanah Montana , Horton Hears a Who , The Game Plan , Meet the Spartans and DrillBit Taylor . None of these appealed to me so i decided to go for a Comedy in Drillbit Taylor just because i knew very little about it.
I wish i had done some homework before i made my choice!
It all begins on the first day of high school, when a trio of anxious freshmen , Ryan (Troy Gentile), Wade (Nate Hartley) and tag-along, Emmit (David Dorfman), become the instant target of the schools senior psycho-in-residence, Filkins (Alex Frost), the ultimate school bully , (who must be at least 22 years old!) . As what they were hoping to be the best years of their lives are suddenly turned into a daily living hell, the boys realize they have only one choice , to hire their own personal bodyguard.
Enter Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson), not the best but definitely the cheapest of the mercenaries, hit men and bodyguards who answer their online ad.
Drillbit is steely, dangerous and skilled in covert black-ops and exotic martial arts. Hes also a complete fraud.
He bluffs and cajoles the credulous trio through his cockamamie boot camp and, after several unfunny missteps, instills in them new skills and some much needed confidence. But when push comes to shove , and more tedious pushing and shoving , Drillbit seems to be no match for Filkins reign of terror ( Yawn ) . Now its up to Ryan, Wade and Emmit to transform this down-and-out drifter into the savior he originally promised to be.
Let me get straight to the point . Drillbit Taylor is bloody awful . Its unfunny , it badly acted and its ridiculous in bad way not a Superbad way , of which this film desperately tries to be. Even the characters look the same as in Superbad . One short , fat curly haired Jewish kid . One Skinny kid and a geeky wacky off the wall kid who is always with the other two despite them not wanting him around. Where as Superbad made me laugh a lot i never laughed once during this despite Seth Rogan being credited a writer . This is not Superbad ..........its Just Bad.
Im still to be convince that Owen Wilson is a comedy actor . His acting ability is not in question but is he funny ?. I dont Think so.
It does not help when the script is awful and that nothing remotely funny happens but he picks the films to star in so hes partly to blame .
I can normally forgive a comedy for being far fetched as sometimes they have to be to be funny , but in this case it just adds to the film being a complete Turkey .
It was reported last year that Owen Wilson had tried to take his life due to him splitting up with his girlfriend. I think the real reason is that he was making this movie at the time and had just realised his mistake!
This is one of the worst movies i have seen in a long time . It was that bad that i was desperately wishing i was in the next screen room watching Horton hears a Who!

I didn't actually watch this film so I cannot comment
In Drillbit Taylor Owen Wilson plays a confrontationally-averse bodyguard to a trio of 12-year-olds. Wilson's funny in small, almost wistful touches, but it's arguable that his sensitive approach actually undermines the material's belly-laugh potential. Like too many of his recent movies, this one doesn't feel like it has any pressing reason to exist, and it's not half so much fun as it should be. And that's before you factor in the expectations raised by producer Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) and... Read more
