    [Highly rated reviewer]

this is a problematic film to recommend as it may be offensive to some. It deals with a period in U.S. history when the slave trade was in full fury and as such the film is filled with racial bigotry, with the 'n' word appearing from start to finish. Even though the film attempts to show the plight of black slaves existing under such conditions, it nevertheless slides quite often into exploitative techniques with a liberal amount of nudity, etc. The one plus point, of course, is the always watchable Warren Oates as a kind-hearted Slave Trader. Other than that, its more shocking than entertaining.
