Ellington's gift for combining blues simplicity, gospel emotion, and sophisticated musical themes is apparent in this double bill of Emmy-nominated programs from the Ralph J. Gleason archives. In 'Love You Madly', this biographical documentary is interspersed with interviews and live performances culled from such venues as the Basin St. West Jazz Club and the 1965 Monterey Jazz Festival. Also includes 'A Concert Of Sacred Music At Grace Cathedral' which was recorded on September 16, 1965, as the first of a three-part composition blending the secular with the spiritual.

    LOVE YOU MADLY and SACRED MUSIC

    Two films on Duke Ellington. See Duke in interviews rehearsing the band and on gigs.

    The first film Love You Madly covers a few of his popular standards and features the likes of HODGES, GONSALVES, HAMILTON, PROCOPE. The second is a film of his first Sacred Music concert in which the band is agumented by singers and a tap dancer.

    A must for any Ellington fan Excellent five atars all the way.
