It was inevitable that The Dukes of Hazzard would leap onto the big screen, and now, thanks to Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers, Club Dread), it finally has. A high octane, revved up southern fried good time...Seann William Scott is hilarious
What would you expect from a film with Sean William Scott & Jonny Knoxville, a few obvious jokes, some car chases and a little action. It's worth watching and I'd probably watch it again, but the storyline was predictable and it's exactly what you'd expect.
I was never a huge fan of The Dukes Of Hazzard, but I used to watch it if I was around. Having watched the film Starsky and Hutch, which was truly appalling, I was not expecting much from this either. However, I quite enjoyed it, it doesn't take any brain to watch it, but it is quite fun. As far as I can tell, unlike Starsky and Hutch, they have kept to the original characters. Also the film is just like a long episode, not detracting from the original outlay of the TV series.
If you were a big fan of the TV series, like anything else, you might be unhappy with it, but I doubt if you would be appalled. For the rest of us, a bit of fun and some crazy driving. Oh and some nice shorts on Daisy !!!! ..... watch and see.
Bo and Luke have some wild and random adventures in their 1969 Dodge Charger lovingly called the 'General Lee' as they hope to save the farm with the help of their cousin Daisy and Uncle Jesse. This time the corrupt Boss Hogg is trying to take over most of Hazzard county through devious means to turn it into a giant strip mine for coal. Since the Duke boys get their farm repossessed, they ain't too happy!
All in all, the movie wasn't that bad. Seann W. Scott and Johnny Knoxville bring laughs the entire way, so if you'll excuse the cheesy plot, watching Scott and Knoxville shoot off laughs and the General Lee do some crazy stunts isn't bad entertainment.
The part that I found really brought the movie down is Jessica Simpson's character who struts around aimlessly trying to attract guys so that Bo and Luke can beat them up for her. Really, without Daisy, sad as it is, the movie would have been much better for me. At least the original Daisy was a strong empowered female in her own right. This Daisy ain't nothing but eye candy (great eye candy, but still nothing more than eye candy!)
The other part that really bothered me is the somewhat pathetic plot. It's as if they wrote the entire script and then later thought they better add a point to the movie so they brought in a cheap plot in hopes that everyone would be too in love with the rest of the movie to even realize how flimsy it is.
Definitely drop your brains by the door and just go along for easy laughs and cool car scenes; try not to think too much while you sit through this one. Unfortunatley for fans of the original, there is not much here to captivate you past the opening General Lee chase(classic Dukes!) and the escape from Atlanta.
NOT LIKE THE ORIGINAL SERIES AT ALL. VERY DISAPPOINTING.
This is the worst film I have ever watched. It's nothing like the innocent fun of the old TV series I remember from my childhood. Only the names of the characters and the car are the same. The film was full of tastless sexual jokes, unnecessarily bare bosoms and the plot was rubbish. Don't waste your time watching it.

This took 3 sittings to watch, it is a bit of a challenge to try and keep interested long enough to be some sort of entertainment. But not to spoil it too much - it is fun and pretty ok in parts, but you need to check your brain at the door.
The Dukes of Hazzard is the big screen version of the long-running tv series. Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott, Jessica Simpson, Burt Reynolds and Willie Nelson all join the fun as the General Lee gets tanked up and ready for cruising fast fun.
The laughs come thick and fast and non-stop action occurs along the way. Johnny Knoxville in particular is brilliant and also Seann William Scott as his cousin gives another good performance.
I was surprised at how much I liked this and it deserves to be seen. Do not be put of like I was!
The film started off reasonable, with the odd chuckle and unique stunts (plus a few expected ones). About an hour into the film, my partner and our two best friends were falling asleep, and our cat chasing her tail seemed to be entertaining us more than the film! Bo and Luke were as great as in the series, although Bo was a little more ditsy. Daisy (Jessica Simpson) was blonde and proved it with some of her acting (Daisy Duke was brunette in the original?).
Sorry not impressed with this 'series to film' remake. Burt Reynolds acts like a wooden fish!
PREDICTABLE is the word that springs to mind having watched a film with Jonny 'Jackass' & Sean 'American Pie' in it. Lots of hooping and hollering, crude boy jokes, breasts and butts, car chases, car crashes and more car chases - in fact they use any excuse to show some boobs or car crashes. And to show it is completely red blooded American fare it completely over plays the point of being anti racist whilst being completely sexist and occasionally homophobic. Jessica Simpson walks around in cowboy boots and a bikini for the whole film in what most have been a very taxing role for her. One for the little boy racers of this world. P.S. Is it me or does Jonny Knoxville look like impressionist John Colshaw passing wind for most of the film?
Wow, looking above some people really hated this film, the words stupid and dumb tend to turn up alot.
Let me ask you this, if you rent a film where the lead roles and occupied by Mr Jackass and Stifler, what were you really expecting? Expecting serious acting and deep meaningfull script? then you can always rent Fight Club of Donnie Darko, you knew you were not going to get that from Jessica Simpson, so why moan? The only thing that really mattered in this film anyway was the car, and to be honest you can't say they messed that up.
In short this is a dumb fun movie of a dumb fun t.v series. Expect no more.
omg i thought it was great..very funny, and for jonny knoxville..he a better actor than a jackass...typical daisy flaunting her bum to get noticed lol..but hey i think the guys will probably watch this for her or a close second.. the car.. ..my kids loved it but only for watching the car in the air..great stunts
My son loved this film, in fact i know every word off by heart now. A very enjoyable film, and er..i remember the original
