If Oil of Olay and vitamins aren't keeping the aging process at bay, Aunt Mei has a culinary answer to those crows feet, one that is not for those of a sensitve disposition. The secret ingrediant is revealed very early, but the horror of what 60 something Auntie (played by a 33 year old Ling Bai) is doing builds throughout the film, and client Mrs Li goes even further to regain her youth. Not one for those who have weak stomach; I agree with other reiewers that this is more of a drama than a horror film and I have to correct the reviewer who said there was no sexual content, in the version I saw Mr Li was getting plenty of action. Worth a watch for Christopher Doyles cinematography and strong performances from the two lead actresses.

Disgusting and downright evil. Very true as someone said - dont watch if pregnant. I would rather grow old gracefully. These women (and man- who by the way thinks he is god's gift) are downright crettings. The wife is not as nice as she seems. The girlfriend- why do that? To please the evil wife?

  • Good film but don't watch if you're pregnant.

A very surreal and clever film about something most of us women worry about.. Staying young and keeping our man. The film was well made and the acting was of a good standard. A good film however the treatment used in this film goes waaaaay beyond the call of duty and I would advise anybody that is squeamish or pregnant Not to watch it.

Ambitious, stylish but ultimately rather silly blend of horror and black comedy with a plot that moves along at a snail's pace and doesn't actually get very far at that. The cast of characters (a 64 year old cannibalistic illegal abortionist who looks no more than 30; an ageing starlet and her lothario husband; a gold-digging female secretary and a young girl sexually abused by her father) suggests DUMPLINGS contrives to say something about the roles of 'youth', 'beauty' and 'sexuality' in relationships but can't quite decide what. Bai Ling's playful and sexually-charged performance as Mei is absolutely compelling.

This was quite a film, I am lost for words tbh , I have never seen anything like this before and dont think I ever will again. If anyone remembers the old 1960s hammer films Countess dracula then this is similar but not virgins are used . Can I say worth a watch , if your a mother or trying to have a baby, dont watch this .

  • Good Egg

    Rated - 4.0 stars
By Matrisse (40 reviews) from London , 31 Oct 2012
Eat an egg. They always make you feel good, nutritious, satisfying, life giving, they always calm the body and soul. If the egg you eat contains ‘actual’ life, would you still eat it? Many do and so this is one of the quandaries of this film. The story of a 64 year old woman who purchases human foetuses to sell to women who can afford the luxury of getting younger by eating the home made dumplings she makes, this tale is immortal. The shelf life of love way past it’s sell by date, the actress she makes dumplings for wishes to regain her youth, though truly she wants to laugh freely again. She is held tight by designer clothes and thinks her husband should love her anyway … This tale is told beautifully in every way possible through the art of film making, it is photographically clever and amusing all the way through and the story is interesting enough to relish and debate. An excellent film, I would recommend it if you are a fan of Eastern Film.
