    Absolutely dreadful

From the director who was sacked just 2 days into filming 'The Island of Dr Moreau' comes this complete piece of drivel. Tedious, boring and pretentious. Just don't waste your time.

    an overlooked horror classic

a heroic failure of a film.

Richard Stanley followed his hit debut film 'Hardware' with this notoriously troubled production.

Tales abound of knife fights among the crew and American audiences saw a butchered version of the film where the studio removed most of the story.

This immensely ambitous project aimed to meld Africa's ancient mythology & contemporary events, spaghetti western and horror.

It doesn't quite come off, probably due to the all the problems, but what you're left with is a good tokers mixture of Leone's Westerns, The Hitcher and some amazing cinematography melded with Simon Boswell's outstanding score.

Stanley has never made a feature film since, thanks to a run-in with Val Kilmer on 'Island Of doctor Moreau'

    Different...

This is worth checking out if you like an alternative take on supernatural horror. It is a little muddled, with rather too many angles going on at once (ancient myth, demon stalker/slasher, racism, marital melodrama, revenge etc). However, it does have some nice simmering camera work and atmospheres out in the scorching desert. The script is weak in places and Chelsea Field would be more at home in an American TV movie I think. Reminded me a bit of 'Razorback' - the Australian massive killer boar horror, which I would recommend as a more satisfying (and amusing) viewing experience.

This risible pile of garbage was sent to me by mistake, but out of curiosity I watched it. Within two minutes I had decided it was low-budget tripe and nothing that followed changed my opinion. After half an hour I could stand no more and simply watched it on fast forward (there was no dialogue worthy of the name anyway, and the 'plot' could still easily be followed). In this manner I was able to confirm my opinion that this is one of the worst films I have ever had the misfortune to see, without actually wasting 1 hour 40 minutes of my life on it. Everything about this ghastly film is simply awful. As they say on Eurovision, 'Null Points'.

    what?

I've watched many American and Japanese horror films, and although I tried hard to like this, I just couldn't. It's disjointed and just doesn't have the tension to keep you interested. Avoid.

Interesting view of a budget cult film

As a fan of the film ‘Hardware’, that has yet to make it onto DVD in the UK, I rented Richard Stanley’s second film Dust Devil.

I enjoyed watching it with the Directors comments.

The movie is not exactly as planned, listening to the director he explains Palace pictures ran out of money and forced him to employ actors that were not willing to do what he wanted. As the film progresses the money runs out and they have to shoot what they can afford. It’s a bit of a mess, but stylish and interesting listening to Richard Stanley tell his side of the Story. Also the Musical Score by Simon Boswell, like in Hardware is way superior to most Hollywood blockbusters.

Richard Stanley Directed the Cult Hit ‘Hardware’ which has yet to be digitally re-mastered and released on DVD.

    Worth renting for film buff’s.

    Demon serial killer?

This must be the first south African film i've seen. It begins as though its going to be one of those arthouse things, not a word spoken for ten or so minutes. Takes time to get going, but when it does it gets surprisingly interesting. The culture is slightly different but doesn't really get in the way, its gruesome in places and fairly hard hitting. Acting pretty good and well filmed. Think maybe the other reviewers didn't like this is because it is a bit strange, but strange is good it diverts away from all the usual Hollywood cliches. Safe rental, but not if you're into $100,000,000 blockbusters.

    Utter Rubbish !!

What a load of rubbish !!!! The accents were annoying, the storyline was confusing and Miramax were right to have hated this movie!!! I have given it one star for the gore - but it really is a waste of time... I don't know how some people have highly rated this movie - its drivel.

    Oh dear

Honestly, this film is absolutely dreadful. Stylistically, its the equivalent of the Charlton defence, all over the place. Like a poor homage to a Guns n'Roses video, except with a minimal budget and less camera angles. Honestly, do some housework, or play with the kids instead...
