Easy Virtue

Set in the twilight of the roaring twenties and at the cusp of the next decade, EASY VIRTUE is the story of John Whittaker, a young Englishman who, after falling head-over-heels in love with glitzy American Larita, finds himself getting married rather promptly. Returning to the family home, Larita's newfound mother-in-law develops an instant allergic reaction to the Whitakers' newest family member. While accommodating to Mrs Whittaker's prickly personality at first, Larita quickly discovers that in order to make her marriage work, she must play her mother-in-law at her own game, and a battle of wits ensue... Based on the play by Noel Coward.

    Feel good, brilliant Film!

Brilliant, Brilliant feel good movie, with exceptionally well selected actors who did justice to Cowards' play. The only thing I would change is perhaps get Biel to look less pumped up in the biceps department as racing drivers back in the 20's (surely not?)didn't have such masculine biceps like hers. The rest is just a flawless effort to bring this brilliant play back to life. I loved it and just wished it had lasted a bit longer!

    Disappointing

This is like Brideshead meet Gosforth Park diluted for the American market, the story is lame and predictable.

The characterisations are extraordinarily weak relying largely on the type casting of Kristin Scott-Thomas, upper class faded beauty, Colin Firth, a slightly bohemian Mr Darcy, Kris Marshall....doing what he does!

A couple of highlights were the 'death' of the dog and the no-knickers can-can but it's really not worth viewing for them!

Rat tea almost killed Easy Virtue crew

    • 10 May 2009

Easy Virtue director Stephan Elliott almost killed his crew before filming on the period comedy started - by serving them dead rat tea. The Aussie thought he was being a saint when he offered to make tea for the film crew as they were preparing Nottingham's Flintham Hall for shooting - but he had no idea he was serving up contaminated water. He explains, "It was only later when the owner of the house came up and she made herself a cup of tea, using bottled water that I suspected something was... Read more
