This movie made in black and white and in the genre of the 1940/1950's relates the story of a constantly optimistic cross dressing director who never took more than one take. Some great performances from Johnny Depp and Martin Landau as Bella Lugosi with good supporting roles from Sarah Jessica Parker and Bill Murray as a transvestite awaiting the op. This movie keeps the interest all the way through in the anticipation of what is going to happen to the two main characters. Will he, won't he make the big time movie that will be the success he craves. The scene where he meets a surprisingly familiar look alike Orson Welles is particularly good. Well worth a watch if you can suspend your pre conditioned beliefs that everything must be in colour and acted to a certain method. Also if you can get through the opening credits which like 30/40/50's movies show all the credits first and not at the end. Enjoy!
