  • Badly Dated

Unfortunately this has turned into a badly dated 1980's drug and gangster flick which produced smiles from this viewer during some of the supposedly dramatic sequences. Jeff Bridges fans will like it as he always turns in a worhwhile performance but for the rest of us it may just be a curiosity.

  • Stone Solid Script

A great LA film with all the best elements of noir and some razor sharp dialog from an early Oliver Stone screenplay that has all the signs of the gretaness that wa to come.

Jeff Bridges turns in his usual superlative performance - his character may be called Matt Scudder, but for all intents and purposes he's playing an 80's Philip Marlowe - and although Rosanna Arquette seems to have wandered in from another movie, she always delightful to watch, and its fun to see Andy Garcia play such a bad baddie.

To 21st century ears, the 80's synth soundtrack sounds horribly jarring, but that's what we had to listen to back in the day.
