    amazing

when i first herad about this film, i was well excited. husband and wife duo latin stars brilliant.

then my mum watched it and she said it was really really good.

usually i dont listen to her!

but i watched it myself, this film like most biographical films tell the story of how it was and how the artist went through highs and lows.

like most artists of that era suffered with drug addiction and Hector Lavoe wasnt an exeption.

this man has been through it all and marc anthony plays him so well.

the music is amazing! if your a fan of salsa this is definatly one to watch!

jennifer lopez plays a part which she has never portrayed before none of this maid in manhatten chick flick stuff, she really shows her acting skills, and she doesnt sing in this!! she leaves it all to marc.

if your a fan of Ray, Selena , walk the line this is definatly one for you

    enjoy!!

This movie isn't ABOUT Salsa Music!

One of the reviewers mentioned this movie was about the music, it isn't! (if it was there would be alot more focus on salsa music, which there wasn't). What this movie IS about is the highly tragic true life story of a talented Salsa musician called Hector Lavoe that left his mark on Salsa music as we know it today. I have watched countless movies of various musicians who have squandered their gift/talent by going down the road of self destruction, and while most folk will say they were able to create such brilliant work because and while they were addicted this is clearly not true....they were all able to express their talent in spite of their addictions. It's quite sad really seeing as most of these talented people don't realise they have a responsibility towards themselves for having been blessed with a talent that many of us would love to have. If you're going through a really bad, rough patch in life right now, this movie will no doubt put things into perspective. Not many people have such an awful life due to their own making: drug taking and womanising taken way out of control to the point of inevitable tragedy.

The movie seems to have inconsistencies as Lavoe was initially involved with Carmen Castro with whom he fathered a son (his first son) and this character was left out of the story.Odd.Anthony and Lopez were brilliant as Hector and Puchi. A good movie to watch once, but I wouldn't watch it again, as it does make for uncomfortable viewing.Based on a true story, this story is ridden with a neverending list of tragedies especially towards the end of Hector's life. There were some excellent songs throughout, but personally I would have added more seeing as the only thing Hector left behind of considerable good was the music and that should have been seen to have outweighed the tragedy that he made his life into. Instead greater emphasis was placed on the events of his life, which quite frankly made for some very grim viewing indeed!

Jennifer Lopez first came to stardom in the US playing the tragic tejano singer Selena in a biopic of the same name. The movie was a hit – and Lopez earned raves for her performance – though it went straight to video in the UK, presumably because no one knew who Selena was. I suspect there is only a small minority of the UK audience who could tell you much about Hector Lavoe – the “King of Salsa”. Which may be why El Cantante has taken a year to get across the...
