The ultimate, notoriously rare, infamously violent, action packed cult classic road movie is finally available on DVD. Along with Vanishing Point and Two Lane Black Top, Electra Glide In Blue reflects a generation in turmoil and encapsulates the gritty, uncompromising, fiercely independent attitude of early seventies existential American cinema. With its sharp dialogue, astounding cinematography, oddball characters and a deep-rooted sense for the absurd, Electra Glide In Blue is a unique and poignant unsung masterpiece. The first and only film directed by James William Guercio, Electra Glide In Blue stars Robert Blake as Vietnam Vet turned frustrated highway patrol traffic cop, John Wintergreen. Tired of handing out speeding tickets to spaced-out hippies, John aspires to reach the ranks of a detective. When the chance to prove his investigative skills arises John is suddenly thrown into a world of corruption, lies and personal politics, eventually growing to despise the authority figures he once looked up to.It’s a situation that concludes with one of the most shocking and ultimately tragic iconic images in modern cinema that will stay with you forever.

One of the great cult movies, this abrasive mix of black comedy and satire made a one-hit wonder of its director, record producer James William Guercio. Robert Blake (who'd made his name as Little Beaver in numerous Red Ryder B-movies) gives one of the performances of his career as a diminutive motorcycle cop who justifies his tough-guy act by claiming to be the exact same height as Alan Ladd. After some of the most graphic violence then seen on screen, the ending is something of a cop-out. But it's always good to see such stalwarts as Elisha Cook and Royal Dano, and Conrad Hall's photography is outstanding.
Agreeable desert melodrama in the wake of Easy Rider, freshly observed with mordant humour, marred by a fashionable downbeat ending.
Heading says it all. In know way is this a comedy. It is about a motorcycle cop who aspires to becoming a detective and is given the chance when a man is found dead/murdered by him and his parther. It's been a long time since I saw this film, but it was a well made, gritty, movie thriller as I recall and well worth a look if you like films like Fargo. But don't order this if you want a laugh!!!
This is a very good film from 1973 about an ex-Vietnam vet who becomes a cop and rides the Harley Davidson Motor Cycle the fim title comes from. He always tries to do the right thing and dreams of being a detective and then a murder provides the opportunity for him. It is a well shot cinematic film and has very good character building. Its almost the opposite of Easy Rider, another road film from the time, and has a very controversial ending. I never saw this until renting it in 2009 but its an extraordinary film and well worth watching.
