For anyone interested in Elgar, music or the essence of England, this is a must.
A masterpiece, which shows what Ken Russell was capable of and illustrates how a great career was thrown away for sensationalism.
The narration of Huw Weldon is like a silk thread weaving its magic throughout the film. The marriage of the story to Elgars sublime music is inspired and the Malvern Hills adds majesty and beauty.
This remains a benchmark to documentary-drama...........Wonderful
A short, documentary-style film of Elgar's life and musical works. Unlike Russell's later work, this is factual and low key, but with inspired elements of cinematography, especially in the Malvern Hills sequences. Worth a look if you like music and biography.
