A very simple plot is woven into a very viewable and interesting manner in this film. An orphanage girl - and as pretty as Vanessa -
has so many tricks up her sleeve to live a life of minor crime!! The manner in which she gets the guy on his knees in the hotel room
- tricking him in first and then waving her 'minor status' card, getting rid of the two blokes in the car, getting goods as well as the 500
franc note back in a shop - all are very well conceived and acted. That her mother had committed suicide and that she held her father
responsible for the the tragedy comes out a bit later. Later still, in a conversation between her mother and the father, it comes out
as to why she sold herself. But that does not make her father a 'pimp'!! Yes, he surely is shown to be a irrespossible husband/father
but not a pimp.
Towards the end, Vanessa does change her mind of killing the father. She is moved by the tenderness of the man who tells her that 'Artist
does not create beauty, simple removes the superfluous'. But that she offers herself - nude - to him is really not logical!!
All in all, a very watchable film. Vanessa looks stunningly beautiful and shows her calibre of a fine actress. Gerard Depardieu is excellent
in his role.
But for a couple of 'logical flaws', the film deserves a high rating of Four.
