Elizabeth Reigns!
By noirpanther (218 reviews) from London , 26 Apr 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
Don't miss this series if you ever get the chance to see it. Utterly superb, like 'I Claudius', this short series combines high quality writing, acting, directing with costuming to generate an involving sense of the human emotions and politics which influenced the world. Despite the small budget, a stronge aura of grandeur is created which makes you feel the power of the characters, yet never surpassing the sense that these were real people handling tricky, powerful and dangerous lives. Glenda Jackson is amazing, growing from 16 year old naive princess to resolutely majestic old queen with all the drama that history books fail to bring to life. (10)Very good for it's time
By Tedesco (31 reviews) from Epsom , 07 Jan 2012Very good for it's time - but I wonder if the writer sometimes gets ahead of the subject and 'invents' intimate conversations... still, I'm looking forward to Part II - As I'm studying the Tudors at the moment, the series give you glimpses of how it might have been...- Was this review helpful to you?

The test of time
By a customer from West Sussex , 10 Nov 2010When this was made I was young enough to think it was very good and in those days video recorders hadn't been in general use! Now, over 30 years on it is simply brilliant! Forget the recent 'Tudors' series - that was geared for after 9pm viewers only - this is educational as well as hugely entertaining - a rare thing. Seeing the young versions of now famous faces is very pleasing too, Robert Hardy is a great Robert Dudley! Why not use it for schools? It really would hold the interest, I wish I'd seen it when I did History! I just wish dramas such as this were still produced, but I have to rely on these recordings to give me REAL entertainment. FIRST CLASS in every way.- Was this review helpful to you?

the best
By a customer from england , 20 Nov 2008I eagerly await the next disc. This is the best film done of Elizabeth I. Glenda Jackson is superb, and should have continued in her acting career instead of going into politics!!
Was the red hair her own? If not it's a beautiful wig!! Very well worth seeing (the acting, as well as the hair!)- Was this review helpful to you?
